For this spectacular site at the highest elevation in Anchorage, tucked into a mountain valley bordering Chugach State Park the owners desired a classic Alaska log house. The approach is robust, with a concrete block foundation; structural lateral restraint accomplished using threaded steel rods running for the full height of log walls, and a roof framed with prefabricated wood trusses and glu-lam beams. The owners first considered a prototype design, and the final built version is an improvement with the addition of the Sunroom over ground level Entry [exterior entry stairs are not a desirable feature in Anchorage] and other changes including the loft areas.
